Biology 1
This class is a general overview of living things. Emphasis is placed on vocabulary development and understanding basic concepts. The following topics are stressed: biological relevance to contemporary life; history, development, and place in the sciences; chromosomes and DNA; cell physiology and division; genetics; the animal kingdom- protozoan, sponges, coelenterates, worms, mollusks, echinoderms, arthropods, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Students will study human reproduction (with emphasis on responsibility through knowledge and caring); the plant kingdom ( algae, mosses, fungi, gymnosperms and angiosperms), and ecology.
